Aug 21, 2011 weird issues with 10.6.8 and parallel 4.0 I went today and tried to use it, since I havent opened parallel in a while. It tells me that parallel is not 'active' and buy a license. However, you would then have to restart each time you want to use Windows, then restart your Mac again to go back into OSX. Parallels allows you to run your Windows apps without having to restart, so it's mostly a convenient solution.

Update Mac Os X 10.6.8
When updating the MacOS, bugs are usually a part of the ordeal. After upgrading to 10.6.8, 9to5Mac readers have had printers connected via their networks drop, optical audio out stop working, and some Parallels bugs. Never fear, there are fixes for all of these problems:
Per some of the previous suggestions, the problem is with some broken files in /usr/libexec/cups/backend
Simply restore the following files in the backend folder from either the 10.6.6 or 10.6.7 versions:
socket, dnssd, lpd, ipp
Once you’ve done this, you have to re-set the Printing System, and also run ‘fix permissions’ using the Disk Utility.
Optical Audio out
- Go to the /Macintosh HD/System/Library/Extensions/ folder.
- Invoke Time Machine and migrate back to a time before you installed OS X 10.6.8.
- Select the “AppleHDA.kext” file in the Time Machine backup.
- Restore the file, replacing the one in your current folder.
