Parallels For Mac Keyboard Problem

Hi there,

Using Parallels Workstation? To regain control of the mouse in OS X (freeing it from the virtual machine), the default key command is Control-Option (they call it Control-Alt), and then you have to move the window to do what you wanted to do on your Mac. Using a windows keyboard will not help, the problem is by default on the Mac the function keys are mapped to system controls by default. However you can switch the behaviour back to functions keys. Go in to preferences on Parallels and add mappings individually for each letter combo of alt and a letter. Alt a maps to alt a, alt b maps to alt b etc for all key combos that involve alt. Time consuming but it appears to work so far. Windows keyboard layout and Mac keyboard layout do not match. Resolution In order to resolve this issue, you need to install Parallels Tools from Virtual Machine > Install Parallels Tools menu item and do. Parallels Toolbox for Mac and Windows 30+ tools in a lightweight, powerful, all-in-one application for Mac ® and PC. Easy to use and economical—a whole suite of tools for a fraction of the cost of individual apps, packaged in one simple interface. Parallels Desktop 13 crack also detects whether MAC or Windows is being used to open a particular file, and asks whether the file type should always open with that program. Other improvements in Parallels Desktop include Windows print page setup, volume control synchronization, and location services support.

We have a Macbook Air for home use, but I prefer to work in Windows (the same as my work environment). We heard about Parallels, so have taken the following steps, but are encountering problems:

Please see this Knowledge Base article here for more information on keyboard layouts in Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac: http. I am using a 2012 small aluminium wireless keyboard. Parallels

  1. we upgraded the Mac OS to Yosemite
  2. we purchased Parallels 10
  3. we purchased Windows 8.1 Pro Student

We have installed Parallels, and now have this on the desktop. We downloaded Windows 8.1 Pro Student and this is sitting in downloads on the Mac. When we open Parallels we get 'Parallels Wizard, Virtual Machine' which asks us to install from a device or migrate from another PC. (note - We don't want to replicate another PC, just want to run Windows on the Mac). When we the try to open the download for Windows 8.1 Pro Student we get the following message:

You can’t open the application “OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408-3.exe” because Microsoft Windows applications are not supported on OS X.

Does anyone please have any ideas as to the next steps so that we can start using Parallels on the Mac?? Note, 8.1 Pro Student is the only Windows program we have downloaded onto the Mac - is it just an upgrade, and not a base system and that's why it doesn't work??
